The design creates a backdrop for entertaining, and a snug that serves as a private retreat. The cedar shingles and lime-mortar brickwork add textural interest to help to settle the contemporary form into its organic surroundings. Birch ply is used to create a contrasting, bright interior that highlights the fantastic views.
The lofty volume created internally echoes that of an imagined open chimney, to reflect the history of the site and its former use.
