An Award winning* bolt hole in rural Gloucestershire set in an idyllic vineyard setting.
The project turns a former stone cattle shed into a residential retreat for a client who was looking to spend time within the landscape they had grown up in and had strong emotional attachments to, including high climbing in vintage motorcars up the track adjacent to the site.
Whilst working at Austin Design Works, we developed the design to reflect the history of the building, re-establishing the gable roof whilst giving a clear material distinction between the old and new structures. The buildings uses an agricultural palette of materials; stone, larch timbers and clay pantiles, but elevated with carefully crafted junction details.
*CPRE Awards - for projects that are significant or outstanding in their contribution to the environment or to the local communities of Rural England.
